The Bleakness

A commission from Glen Evans, the author of  Bizantium and the Northern Isles for a game at the Palladium Open House, this map shows The Bleakness, a region in the Land of the Damned. I actually got to play in part of the game yesterday; it was a blast! The Land of the Damned is a vast area in the Palladium Fantasy pen and paper RPG world, created by the gods to be an eternal prison for ancient, monstrous creatures and war criminals who served the dreaded Old Ones.

Just as many of my other maps, I created this with some variations on some Arsheesh tutorials, including the Eriond technique, his icon mini-tutorial, his curved label tutorial, and his ornate frame tutorial.

I always try to throw in at least one thing I've never done before into each map I do. This time, it was The Great Rift, a vast, steep crack in the land. Most of its effects were done using an inner bevel, along with some terrain sculpting. I also custom-made a chain into the frame, symbolizing the role of the Land of the Damned as a prison for ancient horrors.

I am making a larger map that shows the entire Land of the Damned; the area in this map is about a third of what's in my first draft.
